Aeonium, or the tree houseleek, is a group of evergreen, fleshy leaved succulents that grows into long stem, pinwheel, rosette bloom. They are usually shrub forming.
Unlike most succulents Aeonium prefers moist (but not wet) soil as they have shallow root system. They can tolerate light shade. Some varieties like Aeonium arboreum are landscaper’s favourite which grows well on the ground and thrive on neglect. Plant enthusiasts tend to keep the collector’s varieties; such as variegated or crested plants; in pots for closer monitoring.
Aeonium is dormant in Summer and grows from Winter to Spring. They do not tolerate frost. Aeonium is generally monocarpic; the mother plant will make lots of pups and then die after flowering.
